Getting there

By road: Aruba lodge is 30 Kilometers from Voi gate, 40 Kilometers from the Bachuma gate and 66 Kilometers from Sala gate. Its about 2 hours drive from Mombasa and about 3 hours drive from Malindi.

By air: Ashnil Aruba is accessible by air from either;

  • Kenya Wildlife Service, Voi Headquarters Airstrip (S 3° 21’ 47, E 38° 36’ 18, Alt. 1759’ asl)
  • Satao Camp Airstrip can be used with prior notification (S 3° 23’ 44, E 38° 56’ 49, Alt. 1254’ asl)
Climate

Temperatures range from 180 – 370 Celsius.

Generally the climate is hot and dry fanned by a cool breeze especially in the evenings. It experiences two rainy season, long rains between the months of April to July and the short rains between the months pf November to Early December. This makes it suitable to have safaris all year round.

Health

Ashnil Aruba

Ashnil Aruba Lodge lies in the heart of Tsavo East National Park in Kenya. The lodge comprises 40 deluxe ensuite guest rooms, a restaurant, swimming pool, souvenir shop and other facilities.

Accommodation

There are a total number of 40 deluxe en-suite rooms with 8 having interconnecting doors. 4 triple rooms with one interconnecting room, 6 luxury tented camps and 2 rooms suited for disabled persons.

Restaurant & Dining

The open sitting restaurant located in the main building, overlooks the dam at all angles and can sit a maximum of 150 guests. The wooden deck shaded by canvas umbrellas can be used as extra sitting place during meal times e.g. breakfast, lunch or dinner. The buffet platforms, both warm and cold, sit in the middle of the restaurant for easy access by all.

Meal plans: Full board accommodation basis. Buffet setting is the preferred serving style but if a guest has a specific request out of the normal buffet served, we can arrange for an a la’ carte menu to suit their needs that is chargeable.

Menus: There is a variety of menus to choose from but mainly oriental, international cuisine and a taste of African traditional dishes.

There are other options available that can be arranged on request like 'bubbly' bush breakfast and picnic lunch boxes. 

Lounge bar

The lounge is located in the main building sectored away from the main dining area. The décor has an African touch that makes it a wonderful place to pass time and relax. There is a variety drinks served and include liqueur, soft drinks, cocktails, wines, and spirits, local and international beers. The sitting capacity is about 60 guests.

Conferencing

With the MICE concept picking ground in the industry, Ashnil hotels has embraced the idea by putting in place conference facilities in all the three units to compliment professionals whose line of duty demands conferencing events. We have put in place a conference facility with a revolutionized modern technology which include LCD projector for clear vision, good sound system, and other facets of building success in conference tourism.

Souvenir shop

The souvenir shop stocks curios, African clothing, jewellery and accessories as well as other basic items like toiletries etc. It is open form 6.00 am – 10.00 pm with permissible lunch break.

Swimming pool

After a grueling game drive you can take a dip in our swimming pool or simply relax by the pool which overlooks the game park that. This is the perfect place to relax and laze around in the calm afternoons.

Business service

E-mails, internet browsing and general secretarial services are available at the reception.

Clinic/Dispensary

We have a fully equipped clinic that caters for staff and guests whenever emergencies arise. The nurse will provide assistance at a nominal fee and make referral to a larger well equipped hospital if need be.

Game drives

Full or half day game drives can be arranged to explore the park’s wonders.

There are a variety of safari activities which offer exciting add‐ons to one's stay. They vary depending on the clientele needs and include guided nature walks, evening entertainment, sundowner and game drives.

We also specialize in organizing an exchange of vows in the theatre of wildlife escorted by the Maasai or Samburu traditional dancers, bush dinners, bush breakfast and picnic lunches.

The prime location of our properties in the conservation areas provides an ideal start of game viewing right from the balcony of your room. A drive east, west, south or north of the lodges will give you an equal opportunity to see and appreciate nature and how resourceful it can be when conserved. While most guests will look for the big five as a priority, we look at nature in its entirety and appreciate even the smallest of the creatures available in the conservation areas.

Sundowner

This is a perfect way to end the day in the bush where you can relax and watch the sun slowly set as you take an ice cold cocktail.

Weddings

Ashnil hotels will be prepared to arrange an exchange of vows in the theatre of the wild – Tsavo East National Park.

Requirements:

    1. Passports valid 10 years of both parties
    2. Birth certificate of both parties
    3. If divorced – decree absolute
    4. If widowed – death certificate
    5. Minimum age – 18 yrs
    6. Details of full name, addresses, professional and religion of both parties
    7. If name changed by deed poll – legal proof
    8. Full addresses of parents of both parties
    9. Details of profession of father of both parties
    10. An affidavit to proof marital status (original and photocopy)
    11. Minimum residence – 3 working days before the ceremony in Kenya

Guided nature walks

Guests can enjoy discovering the diversity of the park on foot and have an intimate encounter with the wildlife and nature. For those who love bird watching our resident naturalist will take you on a guided tour through the park to learn about the various bird species.

Clinic / dispensary is manned by a Kenya registered nurse who is on site. Guests should take appropriate preventive measure as advised by medics from country/ region of origin.

Ashnil Aruba is on telephone exchange to both domestic and international calls.

Electricity

Ashnil Aruba is not on the main power supply line and sources its power from a generator set. Electricity outlets have 220/240 voltage capacity.  

Laundry / Dry cleaning

Laundry service is available and we provide services as per client/ guest specifications.

Petrol / Diesel

Petrol and diesel are available.

Room service

This service is only applicable to wake up calls

Safe deposit boxes

The hotel offers use of safe deposits which are located in the rooms free of charge.

Credit cards

The cashier accepts Visa and Master cards (not Electrons). Maestro cards not accepted.

Currency exchange

Foreign currencies can be converted into Kenyan shillings for reasonable amounts.

Hair-dryers

They are available for hire from the reception for use in the rooms.

Tsavo East is a very popular park that was established in May 1948 and some of the scenic features include:

  • Large herds of elephants and other wildlife – Rhinos, Hartebeest, Serval cat among others
  • Home to the popular legend of Tsavo lions known as the “man-eaters of Tsavo”
  • Lugards falls on the Galana River – visitors can walk to the river to view the rapids
  • Mudanda rock – that is along rock outcrop that is about 1.6 kms long. There is a dam at the base. Animals can be seen drinking. Visitors can walk along the rock and enjoy a cool breeze as well as view wildlife at the base
  • Aruba dam – was built in 1952 across the Voi River. The dam attracts many animals and water birds that can be seen at this dam.
  • Tsavo/Athi rivers confluence to form the Galana River

Places of interest outside the national park:

  • Voi town and traditional market, Tuesdays and Fridays.
  • Voi Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery from 1914/16
  • Bura Mission (first inland Christian Mission set up in 1892)
  • Taita Hills (often referred to as the Switzerland of Kenya)
  • Sagalla Hills
  • Mzima Springs (in Tsavo West National Park)
  • Tsavo River Railway Station (Scene of the Man-eaters of Tsavo)
