Musa – Head Driver Guide at Ashnil Mara
Musa is an extremely knowledgeable driver guide with nearly 20 years’ experience in guiding in the Masai Mara. He grew up in the Masai village of Narok and has been surrounded by wildlife his entire life and has a profound respect for the animals he encounters on a daily basis. Musa is the head driver guide at Ashnil Mara and has been based at the camp for 3 years. In this time, he has made a name for himself as having a sharp eye when it comes to spotting big cats and goes by the name of ‘Boba’.
‘I have a second sense for spotting the big cats. I just know when they’re nearby – it’s like I can smell them or something!’
As well as his love of big cats, Musa is a keen birder and prides himself on the fact that he knows over 200 species of birds. Plant life also fascinates him and he loves teaching clients on the the properties of the plants and how they are used in the Masai community.
Favourite animal: Cheetah
Interesting Fact: When a lions does a long yawn, it actually means that they are in the process of waking up! Sometimes they do this about three or four times before they get up.
